Epithalon, sometimes referred to as Epitalon or Epithalone, is a synthetic tetrapeptide composed of the amino acids Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. It was developed by Russian gerontologist Professor Vladimir Khavinson at the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology as a synthetic analogue of Epithalamin, a naturally occurring peptide produced by the pineal gland.
Among longevity-focused peptides, Epithalon is one of the most thoroughly investigated compounds, supported by more than 100 scientific publications accumulated over three decades of research. Its most notable biological action involves stimulating telomerase activity—the enzyme responsible for maintaining and rebuilding telomeres, which serve as protective structures at the ends of chromosomes and gradually shorten as cells divide.

- Research published in Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine in 2003 demonstrated that Epithalon promoted telomerase expression and increased telomere length in human somatic cells. In addition to its effects on cellular aging, the peptide supports pineal gland function by enhancing endogenous melatonin synthesis, helping regulate circadian rhythms and sleep quality. Studies have also highlighted its antioxidant capacity and its ability to influence immune system regulation.
